I would like them listed in terms of picture quality strength and resolution in descending other. Also what other type of camera (higher than the D50) would you recommend for making classic evergreen fotos of very high resolution. It could be of any make or model.

Added (1). No lectures please, just give me some names of good cameras (make and model) capable of producing better quality photographs with higher resolution.

Pretty much any Nikon, Canon, Sony, Pentax, etc camera that is out there at the moment…

though, you should remember that it isn't the equipment that makes a good shot, but the talent behind the equipment…

The single most important things in making sharp images are:
1. The photographer
2. The optics (lens)
3. The photographer
4. The photographer

We use different cameras mostly based on specialized features, however the photographer is pretty much always more important than the camera. I suggest buying a tripod before investing in a new camera. Also consider taking some photography lessons. The more you know the better (and sharper) yours images will be.

You don't want much, do you.
Have you heard of the words Please and Thank you?
Well, they cost nothing but go a long way.

As for your question, why no go to a camera store and ask?

I settled on the Nikon D90 as I could not make myself spend the money on the D700.

Let me make it easy for you. The answer is any camera by a known manufacturer. Go to a camera store and ask the salesperson to show you entry level digital SLRs. Pick the one that feels right to you and which has controls that are easier for you to understand. Don't let him talk you into going up another tier. It will make him a better commission, but it won't help you at all at your level.

Why am I being so glib? It's because with the quality of today's cameras, the limiting factor on picture quality is the photographer and the skills that he or she brings to the camera. You sound relatively inexperienced. So the greatest room for improvement right now is for you to learn better photographic skills, not to get a different camera.

In truth, anything. I can get better images on my i phone… But, i'm a photographer, i understand light, lines and tones… I can see, what most people can't… And its US the photographers who do the work, the camera is just a computer with a lens…

the D60-D70-D80-D90 all take better image quality…

but then, my E510 E1 and E3 also take better images… (Olympus) i shoot 12mp RAW

That question doesn't make any sense. Picture quality strength, even in only technical terms depends on lighting, settings, the lens you put on the camera, the computer you view it on, ect. No one can list what camera has the best quality pictures in such a general way.

I end all my tutorials with "This has been yet another example of how with a basic knowledge of photography, you can be on your way to making great pictures."
