What is wrong with my camera lens?

I have a Nikon D3000, and since a few days ago, the lens only turns to a certain point, then gets stuck and won't turn any further. Can someone please help me? Do I need to get it professionally fixed or a new lens?

Check to see if your lens has a Macro mode. It might be stuck in Macro. You may have to take it out of that mode, which means temporarily switching from auto focus to manual focus on your Nikon body. That might be the problem.

Sounds to me like your lens got dropped or smacked against something and the barrel is slightly damaged.
If that is the case and it's the 18-55 it's probably cheaper to get a new lens as barrel repairs are rather spendy.

Did you gt any sand, etc in it? Since you didn't say what lens you have, some lens will have switches on them that disable certain focusing distances to have faster focusing within a range suited for you at that moment. Are if your that unlucky, something failed inside.
