What is the memory card capacity for Nikon D5000?
I'm having a memory card of 4GB, I would like to upgrade to the maximum SD Card. Please advice
Don't do it
You are far better off having four or more 4 gb cards than one huge one.
Why?
* people get lazy and stop saving all their image files to their computer at the end of each day
* it is rare that you will fill a 4 gb card in one days shooting, but if you do, having a second formatted card is a better solution.
* when the huge cards get full, people try to delete photos they don't want anymore and eventually the whole card becomes corrupt
* memory cards need to be formatted routinely to keep them working properly (after all the images have been successfully copied to the computer, the card needs to be formatted, refreshing it)
For clarity.
SD cards have capacities of 2 gb or less.
SDHC cards have capacities of from 4 gb to 32 gb.
The capacity is dependent on the quality and size of the photos. You manual will have a chart of the various capacities different cards will have.
But I agree with the above, I like multiple smaller cards than one large one. I have a mix of 4Gb and 8GB cards; I shoot RAW+JPG, so I like the 8Gb cards.
Yours can take 32gb cards. If you only shoot stills I would also advice to stick with a max of 8gb cards.
It is so stupid that Nikon can give it specified
