What is better? Canon T3 (1100D) or Nikon D3100?

The difference in quality is negligible to a novice

Neither! The Nikon is slightly better in low-light/high ISO situations… But Canon lenses are cheaper…

They are both excellent cameras

If shooting in low light is important to you, then the D3100 would be the best choice, however you need too look ahead. During the next decade, you will be adding lenses and upgrading cameras (about once every five or six years), what system do you want to be married for that time?

Here is how the sensors compare.

When you get to the next level up, the Canon T3i and Nikon D5100, the differences show up big time

If I would say the D3100 will you buy it?
Anyway, the other can't make a better photo against the other. Now consider your budget.

D3100 comes with 2 more auto focus points, 2 more megapixels, slightly larger LCD screen, Full HD vs HD video, slightly better auto focus while recording, and one stop higher max ISO. It's definitely worth the price, but if you don't have enough money the T3 will be just as good. They both have the same quality, colors etc.
