What Camera Should I use?

I did some more digging on what categories of photography I'm interested in: Nature/Wildlife, Landscape, and Candid. I tried to look at what cameras were best in each area and I was going to narrow my search that way but I'm a bit overwhelmed at how many different cameras are considered the best.
I was interested in the Nikon D40 but read that they were discontinued and found the Nikon FM-10 camera. Not sure if this would be what I'm looking for so once again your thoughts are appreciated.

You know that you are comparing a discontinued DSLR with a discontinued film SLR right?

The Nikon fm-10 is a great film camera however it is an slr. That shouldn't be too much of a problem though since slrs are great cameras. For a dslr, I suggest looking into the Nikon d90. Best of luck!

First decide if you want to work with film or digitally (FM-10 is film, D40 is digital) Both those models are discontinued (the FM-10 over 10 years ago), and there's now no reasonably priced film SLR on sale so you would need second-hand - go to a shop for advice - your knowledge is limited so don't buy at long-distance.
