Using my Nikon D5000?

My wife and I received a Nikon D5000 camera.

I always have been curious about photography and seeing some friends photos, the hobby looks fun. I love the outdoors and love taking pictures. We live on Long Island, NY so we live close the ocean and the city. I think I want to photograph crowds, buildings and I do not know what else.

I do not know where to begin. I have only used point and shoots before.

Can anybody suggest some good starting points and other ideas to begin?

Heavily wooded areas

Next time you go to the store, or the market pick up a magazine of interest and look thru it at all the pictures. Your inspiration will be found there, works everytime.
