Two filters at the same time?
Dear Everyone,
I have a Nikon D3100 with Tamron 18-270 VC PZD lens with Hoya HMC 62mm UV[0] filter. I'm planning on buying a circular polarizing filter, possibly from Hoya too, matching is awesome x] But my question is can I attach the polarizing filter on the UV filter or do I have to take it off? Also does it affect anything in any way? Also, if anyone wants to know or cares, I have a Metz 50 AF-1 external flash and a Silicon Power 8 GB Class 6 SDHC card.
It is possible to use 2 filters at once, although it isn't necessary, and with a superzoom, it may cause vignetting (darkening of the corners) at the wide end.
The other issue is that not all filters have threads on both sides… If your UV is threaded on the front, you could attach the CP directly. The only way to find out if there will be any problems is to do it, and then run the lens from wide to telephoto. You won't lose the corners at the telephoto end, but could as you approach the 18mm end.
It is rarely a good idea to stack filters. Just remove your UV filter and place the polarizing filter on your lens.
There may be a time that you will need to stack and filters if you do not have the right one, but even that is not a recommended procedure.
