TT560 Speedlight flash and Nikon D3000?
I have a Nikon D3000 that I pride myself on being fairly knowledgeable about, until now. I ordered a kit off of amazon that included a Neewer TT560 Speedlite flash. In the simplest of terms, how do I get the flash to fire when I press the shutter button on my camera? There isn't anything connected to the flash, other than where it is connected to my D3000.
Did you mount the flash on the hot shoe of your D3000?
NOTE: You will have to use shutter speeds of 1/200th second or slower to use the flash.
The TT560 is apparently not an automatic flash unit (TTL or iTTL). This will mean that you will have to manually calculate the best lens aperture for the output of the flash.
The NEEWER® OLOONG Flash Speedlite SP-690 for Nikon i-TTL may be a better choice especially since you are new at using external flash units.
I can see how the less than $40 cost of the TT560 could be attractive, but it may not suit your needs.
You got to put your flash on the hot-shoe.
Also, you can't auto exposure mode on your camera - you have to go one of the manual modes so that you can control when the flash triggers.
And since the flash is manual only - you will have to be skilled at getting the exposure right.
If you want the camera to control the flash output, you need to buy a flash that is iTTL compatible.iTTL is the communication system Nikon uses to control the flash output, and your flash is too basic to have this feature.
$40 does not buy much of a flash unit. But my son bought this cheap Targus flash for his D3000, and I was kind of surprised that it worked as well as it did (it is also iTTL compatible):
