You'll just have to stick it on Auto and do your best.

You do not have the skills, knowledge or gear to do this properly, nor do you have the time to learn. However you have made the parents aware of this. Just don't charge any money.

Well, I think you're in a bit over your head. These special events are not easy to photograph. Most wedding pictures, for example, are actually staged and done either before the actual ceremony or after the actual ceremony. To be able to do that, you would need to talk to all the people involved and arrange a time for the photographs to be taken. If the christening is being done at a church, you would have to talk to whoever was in charge to arrange for there to be a time when photographs could be taken. That way you would have time to move around and take good pictures. When the real even happens, things will be happening too quickly to take good photographs. I think it was unfair for your family to ask you to take pictures of the christening. They should have hired a professional photographer and given them plenty of time to make arrangements for the photographs to be taken. That requires some pre-event planning. They are really asking you to do the impossible.
