Problem with my battery grip (nikon d5100)?
I just recently purchased a Nikon d5100 as well as a battery grip I purchased online. The problem is the generic batteries are easy to remove from the grip, however, the official Nikon battery is very difficult to remove. It does not pull out when I push the little tab. Also, it seems like the d5100 is only detecting one battery, rather than both of them. If you have any suggestions, they would be much appreciated.
This is one of the problems people run into when trying to save some money. Generic products can't be expected to perform as well or to the same specifications as those made by the manufacturer of the camera.
I understand that you had to buy a generic grip since Nikon does not make one for your entry level camera. I would return the generic grip and get another one, maybe the Nikon battery will fit in it, but maybe not.
Nikon does not make a grip for this camera. So it is not surprising that both batteries are not detected. The second battery in your grip should be considered just a spare, and when the first battery is exhausted, simply swap their locations.
In contrast, my D90, along with the MD-B80 (Nikon) grip recognizes both batteries, and it shares them together. This is because there's firmware in the camera to do so, along with a dozen or so contacts on the grip plug.
You need to buy an advanced amateur/mid-level camera for full grip functionality.
1 ) Never mix batteries. 2 ) Never buy cheap batteries. They are cheap for a reason. Lack of quality.
Take the cheap battery to a recycle place, and replace it with a Nikon. You have a very nice camera, don't mess it up.
Maybe it has something to do with your power strip always being knocked over by you, after yelling at a video game?
Concerning the Nikon battery being hard to remove, it is spring loaded and when you push the little yellow lever off to the side, the battery should pop out.
