Fuji has announced the X10 to be available in November. It will be expensive for a compact--about $600. 12 MP with a zoom equivalent to 28 - 112 mm, and a 2/3" (1/1.5") sensor, it should have lower pixel density than other compacts, but it should have wider aperture and be more compact than EVIL cameras.

The Nikon P300 and P500 would be good choices to look into. You didn't mention your budget, whether you'd prefer a long optical zoom range, or how compact you'd like it to be, so just do a quick search on those two so you can decide that for yourself.

I would suggest Nikon COOLPIX P300 12.2 CMOS Digital Camera with 4.2x f/1.8 NIKKOR Wide-Angle Optical Zoom Lens and Full HD 1080p Video. Its a great point and shoot camera. I suggest you read this review to aid in your decision:

There's another camera i'd suggest you take a look at; Canon PowerShot ELPH 300 HS 12.1 MP Digital Camera. I believe its better than the Nikon P300. I suggest you take a look to compare the two:

Pick one with aperture/shutter priority, something you'll surely miss coming from a DSLR.
