Photographs corrupted after downloading into the computer from Nikon D3200?

I bought a Nikon D3200 recently, and started to take snaps. I have Transcend SDHC Class 10 32gb card. Now when i see the pics on the camera they are perfectly fine, but when i download them into my computer, around 20% of the pictures are all corrupted. They are either chopped and rearranged like a jigsaw puzzle or the are grey boxes in some areas or they have are cut and have a different color altogether. I'm unable to understand what is the problem. I have formatted the card many times, both through computer or through the camera, but the problem remains. Do let me know what could be wrong and how do i correct that.

That sounds like a memory card on its way out, but try replacing the card with another one to make sure it's not the camera. Depending on how you use it, cards can have wildly varying useful life spans. Some people don't get a whole year out of one.

I agree with James. It sounds like a memory card issue.

IMO… Transcend, PNY, and "generic/no name" cards are the equivalent to using Kodak, GE, and Vivitar cameras. They tend to have a high failure rate. When it comes to memory cards, I only use Sandisk, Kingston, and Dane Electric brands and have never had any issues (I still have a couple of 2GB cards that are 10+ years old and they still work fine).

The only other advice I can give is to never format a memory card with the computer. Always do it with the camera.

Several years ago, I bought a Transcend 8gb memory card, as it was priced way lower than the Lexar, Kingston, or SanDisk versions. After a short time, I started getting corrupted images, with parts blanked out. Then I started getting more and more bad areas.

Currently, that CF card is sitting in a drawer. I can't depend on it, and if a memory card is undependable, then what use is it?

The only possible solution would be to format the card in the camera. If that doesn't solve the problem after some test shots (nothing important), then dump the card and replace it.

Tread carefully.

It just might be that the thumbnails are wonky, but the actual images are fine. Did you check the full-size images on your computer? If you are on Windows, you can force the thumbnails to refresh by changing the folder's icon size for files.

This commonly happens if you have the import folder open while doing the import. Just wait until the import has finished before peering at the files.
