Nikon D80 Blurring Front Object?

I have a Nikon D80. When focusing on an object, it blurs the object and the background is in focus. I want it the other way around. What do I do?

By definition, it's not focusing on the object if it's blurred. =P Most cameras will focus on what's either dead in the middle, or it will try to determine what you're trying to focus on based on the focus areas. If you're trying to focus on a subject that's not dead in the center of the viewfinder, move the camera so it is, press (and hold) the shutter halfway to AF, then move the camera so the subject is where you want and take your shot. Aside from that, try your hand at manually focusing if it's a still object.

Is this the only lens which the problem occurs with? It may be that your lens has a back focusing problem. Consult your D80 manual and look for a section on front/back focusing.

(This assumes that you are not making any mistakes as you focus)

You should be able to correct the focus problem for the lens and the camera will remember to use the correction each time the lens is attached.
