Nikon D7000, the foreground objects are way too dark, what to do?

A while ago, me and my friend went out to take photographs, I have a Nikon D7000 and she has a Nikon D90. When she took a photo of buildings on the foreground and sky on the background, everything was clearly seen and they were equally bright. But when I took the same pose with my D7000, the buildings on the foreground were too dark. What can do to avoid that? I've tried different shutter speeds or apertures but they just don't seem to work.

Were the buildings and other foreground objects in the shade and were you exposing for the sky?

That may be the problem.

You need to spend some time learning the fundamentals of photography and learn how to use your light meter manually.

A link to the photos taken by your and your friend a the same instant of the same subject would be very helpful.

You have an amazing camera. All you have to do is learn how to use it.

You need to learn the basics of exposure. Just "trying" different settings without knowing why will get you nowhere.

She understands the camera. You do not understand how your camera works and especially not the light meter.
