Nikon D5100? How to focus at infinity?

I have a kit lens 18-55mm. How to focus at infinity?

Set your lens at 18 mm and focus the infinity point.

1.set lens switch to M
2.bring camera to eye and look trough viewfinder
3.look at a distant object
4.turn front part of lens until image becomes clear
5. Now you've focused on onfinity

If you are trying to do this for a night scene, it can get tough. If there's nothing bright enough on the horizon, you can probably focus close enough to infinity for the wide angle by using a strong flashlight and point it at a reflectorized sign or maybe a license plate from a pretty good distance. When it has locked on its autofocus, switch it to manual. Be very careful not to upset the focus setting or the zoom setting. A change in the focal length might shift the focus.
