I have a nikon D50 and 2 days ago one of my friends knocked it off the table, after examination i realised when i press the shutter release button the flash if needed will only open up half way it is Very loose and also the insides of the flash have fallen out please could you tell me if i can get a replacement flash or weather i should start looking at a new camera also how much would it cost to get it fixed if possible.

Pay to get it fixed… Or get an external flash…

You'd have to contact a Nikon-authorized repair facility for a quote on the repair.

If you feel that is too expensive, you could either purchase an external flash unit or look into replacing the camera with a newer model. Current Nikon entry-level models start around $500-$600.

Steve's advice is only good if the flash sync circuit and the hotshoe connections are still working. Try pressing the button on the side which opens the flash, the linkage from the shutter may have been dislodged.

The goofy little pop up flash is the single worse item on the camera, (or any camera). A pro level DSLR does not even have one of these awful things. If you are SURE everything else is working on the camera, this is now the time to get a good, dedicated TTL Nikon external flash like you should have had all along anyway. Don't even consider wasting the money trying to get that pop up flash working again. You can buy a proper external flash for what that would cost.

ADD: I agree totally with "screwdriver" and that is why I said for you to be SURE everything else is working on the camera, and by that I mean the hot shoe contacts also, sorry, I should have been more specific. The best thing for you to do is take the camera to a good photography retailer and test it with an external flash mounted in the hot shoe to be sure it works before making the purchase.
