Nikon D40 Fisheye Converter

I recently bought a Nikon D40 Fisheye Converter FC-E8 0.21x. Before I bought it the guy told me it would work for my Nikon D40 camera. When I got home and tried it with my camera, I couldn't find out how to put it on my camera and realized he may have been lying about it being able to work with my camera.
Can the converter work with my camera or no? Or do I need something else for the camera in order for it to work?

I believe this is for point & shoot cameras, like the Coolpix line. This is not meant for a DSLR camera.
