Nikon D3200 slow at reacting to shutter button with flash?

Matt

Trying to describe it as well as possible; when using the flash (built in) with my d3200, after focusing and fully pressing the shutter button there seems to be a delay of about upto a second before the camera actually flashes and takes the photo. I don't have any self timers set, and the camera is very responsive without the flash.
It has only started doing this recently, and I can't think of anything that may be causing it.
Does anyone know what I may be doing wrong?

Have you tried downloading your work onto your computer and re-formatting your card in-camera?

Full cards take longer to react.

I can think of two possibilities:
1. You have turned on the Red Eye reduction setting. When on, there's a small light or a primary flash that goes off just before the main flash. You won't see this with your eye on the View Finder. Check your settings to see how to turn this off.

2. Your flash has not recharged. If you are taking a series of photos using the flash, it has to recharge before it will trigger. With an external flash, you will often hear the recharge cycle.

Hope this helps,

Recharge the battery first, then try it again. The weaker the battery, the longer it takes the flash to recharge.

If it does not change, try to reset the camera. Perhaps you inadvertently set a pre-flash or red-eye mode and did not know it.
