I'm looking to buy a 50mm 1.4 AF-D (NOT "G")… For a nikon D5000 tonight for less than $200. I know that this will NOT autofocus with my body but would it be worth it anyway if I got it and just manual focused? How finicky is it manually? Need an answer as SOON as possible so I can decide before I go. Thought it was a decent price and might be worth it? I already have the 18-55 and 55-200 that I manually focus every once in a while without a problem.

Added (1). Yes wasabe… I need it for low light. Like i said… I have both the others i'm just looking for a prime for low light and children. (faster than the 18-55mm)

If that lens is something you need for low light without a flash, then it is probably worth it.
for me the 18-55 does most of what i need. Portraiture - use the long lens

Manual Focus is not an issue, D instead of G is. Once this lens in your kitty you would lose the option of acquiring G one (much superior to D ) in the future. Can think of buying f1.8 instead.

It will be nearly impossible to play on the strength of that lens while shooting children. The DoF will be extremely shallow, and children won't exactly stand still and give you the time to focus.

No it's not worth it.

The difference between 1.4 and 1.8 is only big in the price and the 1.8 is already tricky to focus when it's wide open.

Have you considered the AFS Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G yet? It's the only wide-aperture lens under $450 that will autofocus with your camera, and gives superb image quality as well, all for only $200 new.
