Need a photography advise?

Hi, I'm a amateur photographer and one heavy metal band asked me to shot their concert in bar. I have a Nikon d80. Any advise, good tips that I can use? Should I use tripod? I don't have a speed light is the one build in my camera enough?

The popup speedlight is not enough. I would advice against heavy flash, instead beg, buy, borrow or rent a f1.8 lens and do your best with that.

Crank the ISO and shoot with a fast 50mm/1.8. Oh and earplugs! You'll be standing right in front of the speakers for most of the night.

Try a bit of everything…
Do some shots handheld - lets you get into tight spaces
Do some tripod - in low light you will get motion blur of hands - good effect
Maybe with built in flash - it will be harsh light in dim room - experiment
"Dutch" the camera - tilt it so it is NOT level
Look for walls, tables, etc. To brace handheld camera, steady shot, no tripod
Be brave, go for interesting angles, band from side, band from rear
Shots of hands playing, shots of band from behind showing crowd
In some shots get the lights in frame, it adds color and contrast
BRING EAR PLUGS! Go to a gun shop and buy a couple of pairs of 29 db type
-- get the "in the ear" type, can't be seen as easily
