I'm looking to get a camera which ill primarily use for filming. I was looking at the nikon d7000.is this a good choice? Are there any other comparable cameras which can shoot video in the same price range?

A good camera to use for video would be a video camera.
If I were getting a DSLR with video as a high priority, I would look at a Sony. The semi-transparent mirror allows it to use the phase detect autofocus in the pentaprism assembly for constant auto focus in video.

I recommend a Canon t2i or Canon t3i. I'm not sure if they are the Canon equivalent of the Nikon D7000 but they are great cameras for people wanting to get a more professional image.

The best Canon that you could get for this would be a Canon 5D or 7D.

hope this helped.

It depends on what your filming.

The d7000 is a fantastic camera, it's top rated by the pros and real users. But it might not be the best choice for video, and it's a bit on the expensive side.

A better video experience (and still takes a decent photo) would be the entry level translucent mirror cameras from Sony. The A33, A35 and A55 are worth a look.

If you want to get serious, you can get a Sony Alpha A65 for slightly less than the D7000, or spend a bit more, go crazy and get the Sony A77. All of these cameras will give you the fast autofocus with video that you can't get with Nikon or Canon.
