Is 25k shutter count okay to buy for a Nikon D7000?
Planing to buy a used Nikon D7000, on the ad it says "under 25k shutters". Is that fine?
Qrk is right.
Being able to hold a camera in your hands and inspect it for any obvious damage is the best way to buy used camera gear.
25 k shutter cycles is very low. Most shutters can shoot many times the stress test numbers assocated with specific cameras.
I have a colleague who owns a Nikon D3 and he has over 1,000,000 shutter cycles and it is still working just fine. Nikon did stress tests of 300,000 cycles with no failures.
You will NEVER stress your cameras shutter that much, so expect the D7000 to last for another decade.
NOTE: The cost of having a Nikon camera cleaned, calibrated and have a new shutter installed costs under $250, so if you ever do find that the shutter fails, the cost of replacement is not nearly as costly as buying a new camera of the same quality
The following has been copied from Nikon's website:
"The D7000 has a shutter speed range of 1/8,000 to 30 s, with a top flash synchronization speed of 1/250 s. The newly developed shutter unit, that has an equivalent performance to that of the D300S, is tested for 150,000 cycles with the shutter actually loaded to prove its high durability. "
The D7000 is probably rated for 100k shutter cycles, so 25k isn't that much. You may get 200k cycles from the shutter, who knows. Hopefully, you'll be able to check this camera out in person to make sure things work OK.
That's fairly used but still good. Most dSLR's are rated to 100,000. Test the camera thoroughly before paying.
25K shutter actuations has barely broken in the camera, so that part is good.
Used cameras are like used cars. Is 25,000 miles a lot for a car? It will probably be OK provided it has been looked after and has not thrashed to within an inch of its life, and has not spent its whole life parked in a supermarket car park, and has not been used for carrying wet muddy dogs on the rear seat.
In exactly the same way the number of actuations is not the only parameter. You need to look at the D7000 for signs of abuse. Under normal circumstances 25,000 actuations shouldn't be a worry but if the body is scratched and scraped then don't touch it.
