I bought a Nikon d90 with 30k shutter clicks?

I bought a Nikon d90 with 30k shutter clicks from this one guy on craigslist today. He said he had taken well care of it. When I went home and checked the shutter clicks it said it was 30, 000. When I found this out it made me kind of nervous because I was hoping for a lower number. I know these cameras are pretty reliable and are guaranteed for at least 100, 000. If I ever wanted to sell the camera I feel like it would depreciate the value but then again I always worry about everything. Would this make you nervous, should I worry?

They're not guaranteed for 100, 000. Once the warranty period is over, it wouldn't matter if it died at 100.

All that number means is that the production test samples made it to 100, 000 actuations without breaking or failing. It doesn't mean they're guaranteed.

Don't worry about it. Even if you took 50 photos every single day from today onwards, it's still 4 years of use (if you believe that there's 70, 000 left).

I would not worry too much about it if it was well cared for. The shutter of the D90 is factory rated at 100, 000 shutter actuations before service was needed. The D90 is a very capable camera and even though it was replaced by the D7000 is still takes amazing pictures. I wouldn't worry about the shutter count I would continue to focus your efforts on really learning photography and not just snapping as many picutures as you can because it is digital. Shoot the camera in manual mode and really learn what the camera is doing. If you leave the camera on full auto all the time you won't learn anything or get the best images the camera can make. Also, you may want to look into shooting some raw images and getting some good post processing software like Aperture or Lightroom.

All the best, when you go to sell check out http://ibuycameras.net they offered more money than the other guys and the selling process was very quick and easy, I also got paid extremely fast! I can't say enough good things!

All the best!

If you really checked out this so called 100, 000 shutter cycle reference, you should have noticed that the camera was torture tested to 100, 000 cycles. This means that under normal shooting conditions that shutter should last three times that many cycles.

A colleague of mine has a Nikon D3 with over one million shutter cycles on it and it is still working just fine. The D3 is tested to 300, 000 cycles.

30, 000 cycles is nothing for a camera that old and could be considered "lightly used"

Don't worry about it. Shutter failure is something that usually occurs either very early (due to a defect in the shutter) or very late. The very fact that this camera made it past its first few thousand shutter actuation is evidence that it got a "good" shutter that can be expected to last.
