How to turn up the flash on my Nikon D3000?

Like, on Canon cameras you can go to program, then flash, then turn it up, too make the flash brighter.
How do you do this with a Nikon?

Using my old D50, which like the D3000 has a single command dial.
With your D3000 I think you may have to first press the Info button.

With your left index finger, push in and hold the flash button
With your right index finger, push and hold the exposure compensation button.
With your right thumb turn the command dial to adjust the flash compensation.
