How to shoot longer exposure?

How can i shoot long exposure? I, m using nikon d60 with kit lens. Can you help me and can you post some tips on what to do with the setting? If you can post an perfect setting for d60 much better.

A perfect setting would be a point and shoot. You have to change the f-stop to change exposure time try 1/8 and work your way up but remember every lighting requires a different f-stop for your desired effect, so there's no perfect setting.

I don't know about d60, but long exposures need manual mode and commonly a tripod. It depends much on what are you going to photograph. For about under 30 seconds, your lightmeter can be reliable. For very long exposures you need to estimate the proper time and bracket

You need a tripod in taking long exposures like fireworks, light trails and light displays. For light trails and fireworks try to close down your f stop to the maximum then experiment with different shutter speeds. The slower the shutter speed the longer the trails.

It must be embarrassing that you have a fully manual DSLR camera but have not even read the instructions well enough to understand the three most basic principles of exposure: shutter speed, aperture, and ISO.

Here's a hint, long exposure means a longer shutter speed.
