How to make Nikon d3200 shutter speed faster?
I'm going to be taking pictures of a baby but the shutter speed is not fast enough. Babies move a lot and I want to be able to get a good shot. The ISO is at 400 and on the A setting. I like the pictures it gives when it's still but the baby will be moving.
A stands for aperture priority. This means you can adjust the aperture, and all the other settings automatically adjust for the optimal picture.
To get a faster shutter speed in this mode, you can:
- lower the aperture (lower aperture => lets more light in)
- increase the ISO (increases graininess of the photo, but allows a faster shutter speed)
The minimum aperture can vary for each lens, and generally, fixed, wide lenses offer a lower minimum aperture. If you're using the lens your camera came with, it may be hard to get a faster shutter speed without introducing more light to your baby.
FFS just give the baby a few shots of vodka and see how fast the piece of **** moves after.
Dear God… Read the instructions that came with your camera. If you don't have them, download them from the Nikon website.
You could set your camera to the Shutter speed mode (normally Tv but I don't know what Nikon call it)
Then set a fast speed. The camera will automatically adjust the aperture for you.
You need more light. Bring the baby out under the shade with the sun already up.
Shoot in shutter priority instead of aperture priority (ie in S mode instead of A mode).
Have Auto ISO on, so that if the light levels are lower, the ISO will go up to get enough light on the sensor for the exposure.
If your pictures are too noisy at high ISO then you need;
- a faster lens and/or
- add light (ie use flash)
You need to use S mode (shutter speed) not A mode (aperture). You can then set your shutter speed to something like 1/400th of a second or higher to freeze motion. BTW, this is really basic stuff that is covered in your Owner's Manual.
