I film on a nikon d5000, and edit in windows live movie maker. When I upload them to youtube, they look such bad quality! What can I do? I film in widescreen, with the highest resolution… Also what other editors are good for a pc? I don't have a mac.

You can add custom profiles (the code that processes the WMM projects into videos) that will improve the quality of Movie Maker's video output. The nice thing about profiles is that they are version-independent. They work with all versions of Movie Maker.

Here's the instructions for installing profiles (prx files) into WLMM on Windows 7. Ignore the profiles in this link. They aren't the very best. Scroll down past them for the instructions. Use Windows Explorer (Start>All Programs>Accessories>Windows Explorer) to install the profiles.

Here are the best HD, widescreen profiles. In the left column, click the + next to WMV-HD then click on the icon next to "Introduction". Scroll down the the HD widescreen profiles. Click on whichever you need: 720 for HD lite and 1080 for full HD.

It could also be an encoding issue if it looks degraded. Make sure you aren't redoing footage previously rendered as a rule of thumb. For best results film it, edit it, render it and upload it once. If you are taking a home movie on VHS for example and capturing via pinnacle and editing it for a new format (YouTube or DVD) that counts as re-encoding it and you will lose quality.

If you are taking an old file or old previously rendered video and bringing it back into the editor then you are re-encoding. All of these examples will give you degraded quality. RULE of THUMB: Work with raw footage from your camcorder as often as possible for best results here. Always archive your raw footage in case you have to redo or change something.

And i always try wondershare vivideo to edit my videos. Very professional. Hope it helps!
