How to make a gif using a Nikon D3100?

I want to make an animated gif with my camera. I have a Nikon D3100. What settings or whatnot should I put my camera on to record a gif?
Added (1). Lol I didn't get the camera specifically to take gifs.
but I wanted to know if it'd be an option.
good grief.

You can't. What you can do is record a video and convert it to an animated gif on your computer (though keep in mind that it will vastly reduce the color depth).

Why in the *blank* would you spend $500 to take pictures in the gif format. Gifs only allow 256 colors, jpg is up to 16.7 million colors. You should be shooting in the raw format, they you can use a photo processing program to adjust, downgrade and optimize your image however you would like. You can always downgrade quality, you can't bring back those lost details.

Just record a normal video with your Nikon then put it on your computer. Youtube how to make gifs. There are many programs that do it easily.

A.gif is something you have to do on the computer. There are plenty of sites online that will make one if you give it the pictures to string together. Just search gif maker or something like that
but no, you can't make them directly on your camera
