Yes they can. You might want to invest in a flash if you want to do portraiture.

anyway, there's tons you need to know. Best would be to start off by going through photography books, such as "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson.

Yes they can look into getting filters polarizing etc. Look into getting capture NX software to edit your pictures before you start shooting learn about shutter speed and f-stop.

Have you taken any photography classes? That's the easiest way to learn how cameras work. Once you have basic knowledge of your camera's f/stop, shutter speed, ISO, etc., you should have no problem taking pictures like the ones you've linked to.

The internet is a wealth of information of anything, including photography. Other than that, all I can say is everything will come with experience.

Sure your camera will do that. The problem is not the camera, it's you. Quit reading and get shooting.
Learn how to properly operate both camera and lens because the problem is all about you.

Besides basics like SDHC card, case, and extra battery the next major thing to buy should be a tripod. Don't get cheap junk. You can get a pretty good aluminum tripod in the $100-200 range. Carbon fiber isn't necessary unless strength to weight is important.
