How to do manual bracketing in a D3100?

Hi, I want to know how can I do Manual Bracketing in my Nikon D3100, I wanted to try HDR, and I read I need my camera to be on Auto Bracket (but I don't know what it is) and the D3100 doesn't have the feature. Can you please explain?

Shoot in manual mode, make sure it isn't in Auto ISO mode (read the owner's manual). Take one shot at normal exposure and adjust shutter speed to get one shot two stops over and one shot two stops under. I assume your HDR article covered the rest.

Another point to add…

With HDR, the image composition and depth of field should be the same. Use a tripod. A cable release or remote or use of the self-timer would not be a bad idea. Keep the aperture constant and change the exposure by varying the shutter speed.

Otherwise, the answer above is good - a best answer.

You do not NEED autobracket to take HDR's - it just makes it easier & means less fiddling about. Here is how to take HDR pics without AEB;

1. Put camera on tripod.
2. Turn off Auto ISO (if you have it on, it may be on by default).
3. Set mode to aperture priority (A). Set aperture to get a decent depth of field - f16 or so.
4. Take a shot - this will be your 'normal' exposure, ie 0EV
5. Dial in a stop under exposed - use the +/- EV button/wheel until it says -1.0EV.
6. Take the shot.
7. Repeat taking images by adjusting the +/- EV comp wheel until you have a series like -2EV, -1EV, 0EV, +1EV, +2EV.
8. Combine images in software of your choice (Photomatix Pro & Dynamic Photo HDR are two good ones).
