How much would a Nikon D5100 with shutter count 255,000 sell?
How much would a Nikon D5100 with shutter count 255,000 sell?
That's a very high shutter count. I wouldn't count on much. Guesstimate? $20 to $30 tops.
The price of used equipment is heavily dependent upon the physical condition (mechanical and cosmetic).
Nikon states that the expected life of the shutter within the D5100 is 100,000 actuations. At 255,000 actuations, it's likely that the previous owner has replaced the shutter at least once. You first need to ask the seller if they are aware of the camera's repair history. If the seller isn't aware of when or if the shutter had been replaced, I'd be very cautious about buy this particular copy.
Go onto eBay.com and do a search for completed auctions for the Nikon D5100. There are many, most don't list the number of actuations. But those that state "lightly used" were sold for about $170 USD. At 255,000 I would guess that this particular copy would probably be worth about $50 for the body only. You have to factor in the $250 cost of replacing the shutter.
Hoping for $50?
