How to write with light on a nikon D3000?

I wanna be able to write with light, i have a nikon d3000 and i don't know what settings i should have it on, and like how do to it. If you could Please help me out. It would mean so much.

Manual focus, manual exposure, try 100iso F8 4-8 seconds in a dark place and wave a light of some sort infront of the camera,
heres a tutorial:

Manual mode would be the best way to do it, but it sounds like you probably don't know how to shoot fully manual yet.So, I would recommend trying Tv or shutter priority mode. You can change the shutter speed to something long, like 2"-10" (2 to 10 seconds is what the " means) so that you have enough time ot write something. You could also try a "fireworks" mode, that might work. Basically you are going to want a long shutter speed.experiment and see what works.
