How to make a timelapse with a nikon d50?

I want to know how to use my nikon d50 to capture pictures at intervals that i can set and once i have my pictures how to put them together into a timelapse movie

Have you found something called Interval Timer Photography in your user manual?
If you don't you will have to buy a newer Nikon like a D200, D2x or D300 which does have such a feature.
There are some software programs out there can may allow you to use your computer to remotely shoot time-lapse photography.
Here is one link

Compiling a time-lapse video, you will need to find a special software to put it all together. QuickTime Pro is said to be one of those programs

There's no option for that build in. Options you do have:
1.control it from a pc
2. Get an external intervalometer. These are tricky to find since they need to be IR but they are out there. I've also seen schematics for home building one
