i bought this lens for my nikon d5000 and i can't figur out the auto focus manuel is great but not for action shots:/
Unfortunately, this lens won't autofocus with the D5000, since the D5000 requires an AF-S lens to autofocus.

Unfortunately, you bought a Nikon AF 50mm f1.8 which will NOT auto focus on your D5000 because neither the lens nor the camera body have a focusing motor. If you want a 50mm lens that will auto focus on your D5000 then you'll need the Nikon AF-S 50mm f1.4G.
In the future make sure to only buy AF-S lenses for your D5000.
Nothing unfortunate about this lens. It is one of the most popular lens from nikon.
Use the lens in manual focus. It would turn out to be a blessing in disguise once you have learned to use manual focus. With some practice the manual fucusing can be done faster than AF.
