How to get light exposure photography with a Nikon D5000?

I just want to know how to get my pictures to look like this:
What supplies do I need? And what sort of settings do I need to use on my camera?

Oh yes. Light painting is difficult. I haven't been very successful with just my camera alone. I work with a D5000 as well, but I think those pictures you posted probably involve some post-processing using photoshop.
perhaps this sight will help:

It's called painting with light or light painting, watch this and the other youtube vids along side it.

Equipment: Tripod and remote shutter release
Supplies: Vary-colour penlight or other light emitting tool
Setting: Place the cameras shutter to the bulb position and lock open the shutter while light painting. Adjust the lens aperture to provide the best colour saturation.
