Getting d3100 nikon camera.what negatives does it have?
And i'm still not clear about what lense to get.everyone suggests a different lense. How shall i decide which lense i need.
Added (1). Still photgraphy is my priority.
The lens that comes with it (A-S 18-55 mm) will cover over 80% of what most people shoot. Landscapes, group shots and head and shoulder shots.
If you can budget for the AF-S 18-200 mm VR instead, it will give you better reach not only when shooting stills, but when using the Full HD video (1080p) mode. This is the only entry level dSLR that can us auto-focus in the video mode.
If you intend to shoot much video, you may want to include a good sturdy tripod and video tripod head.
I almost always advice newbies to start with a 18-55. You can't beat it on price, it's a decent performer and it allows you to discover what you really want in your main lens.
Negatives? As to bad points of the camera I assume.
No focus motor in the body
no bracketing
rather small
