First tiem DSLR/Does any one here own a Nikon D3200?
I'm in the market for my first DSLR. I have £500 budget. Would you say that the Nikon D3200 is a good first time DSLR? It's currently £350 on amazon and you get £50 cash back which leaves £200 for a lens. Would you say this is a good option? Or would i be better buying a £500 DSLR body with a lens kit. Any tips/advice?
Yes it is.
12 years ago, I was shooting using a Nikon D100, professionally.
Here are two images shot with that old camera

The D3200 is superior in many ways to the old D100, so you have the potential of producing even better quality images with one
All you have to do is learn the fundamentals of photography once you buy the camera.
The D3200 isn't a bad camera to start with… I'd send you towards the D5100 though with the 18-105mm lens… It isn't an ideal lens for nature and wildlife shots if you fancy photographing what lives in your garden… It's a good option as a general purpose lens… It will cover you for decent enough landscapes, group shots and the occasional casual portrait, street photography etc… It isn't a discreet lens… Some of the street photography brigade like a lens that doesn't attract too much attention something that won't make them stick out… The 18-105 isn't what that type would go for.
I reckon for your budget the D5100 is great value for money and gives you lots of room to grow into… It has the articulated screen which was the main reason I bought one… Fun camera and great quality.
If you have any doubts… It wouldn't hurt to visit a local camera dealer/store and explore the different options from Canon, Pentax and Sony either… All the cameras in your price bracket offer pretty much equal quality… One of the models will either feel better than the rest or will have a feature that just makes it the best choice for you… It's a good idea to 'handle' what's on your shortlist before you buy it… It will help reassure you that you are making the best choice.
Yes, but look at the Canon EOS 1200D and Pentax K-500 as well. If you want to shoot video too, the Sony SLT A-58 is no slouch.
Find a dealer and try All of them - the best camera is ALWAYS the one that feels right in your hands.
