Compare these two cameras for me please?

I'm not a photography expert in any sense, but I want to buy a DSLR camera… I really don't want to go over 650, but I can live with 700 I guess. Can you tell me which is better, Nikon d3100 (14.2 mp 18-55mm lens) or the Canon Eos rebel t3i? I would be using it for everyday pictures, including sports games (Soccer/basketball) and was wondering which one had better quality pictures.

They are both very good cameras. The D3100 in particular has a very easy interface for beginners.
It is capable of very good photos.
I'm thinking of getting one as a backup for my d7000.

The t3i will cost you more than $700 and it's an excellent camera.
I'm a Canon guy and I only recommend what I own and therefore know. For my money you can't go wrong with Canon.

Picture quality depends on the photographer's ability. All dSLR's are basically the same. Any will do. If you want more value from your money, don't get a popular brand.
