Cheap entry level dslr?
I want to purchase my first dslr… Yes, i'm a newbie.
i'm wondering about good, cheap, entry level dslr's such as
Canon Rebel XS (EOS 1000D)
Nikon d3100
Canon eos 630
i've been doing a lot of research, and i came down to those. Which one is rhe beat for entry level? Or is there any others i should check out. (please keep it between canon or nikon)
If you compare the Canon XS/1000D to the Nikon D3100, you will see that the Nikon has more and better features, including being able to auto-focus in the video mode.

As you can see, the Nikon D3100 has better sensor performance straight across the board
I have a Canon 450D which I like a lot My brother has a panasonic Lumix and that takes great photos also worth looking at
Also check out the Sony Nex 3 and 5 they offer great quality and smaller to carry around and brilliant video SLR are ok in there own way but they are bulky and you need to spend a lot on them once you have them and with them being digital they are out of date pretty quicly I would try the sony and panasonic bridge cameras as I'm sure you will get more use from them
I own a 1000D. I've had mine for well over a year and it's an excellent camera. David is a Nikon guy and of course favors their gear - I'm a Canon guy and favor this gear.
If $500 is cheap to you then the 1000D is for you. As a newbie this camera will give you an excellent place to begin dslr work. Understand there's a learning curve with any dslr that requires respect if you hope to achieve the high technical quality this camera is capable of.
By the way you do understand that the eos 630 is a film camera correct? It's not digital but
35mm film. It's a fine camera but not digital.
D3100 OR canon rebel T2i.both have 1080p video nikon will me sharper.canon has larger sensor i believe
Pentax K-X is the best deal out there. Its entry level price, with 12 mp. 720p video, live view, and in camera image stabilization (Canon and Nikon don't have it).It uses a K mount which means you can buy any old used Pentax lens and use it on the camera.
I would consider
Nikon D3100 14.2MP Digital SLR Camera
* 14.2-megapixel DX-format CMOS image sensor;
* 3-inch monitor with One-Touch Live View shooting and movie capture
* Full 1080p HD Cinematic Video with full-time autofocus and sound
* Easy-To-Use Nikon Guide Mode with intuitive controls and on-board assistance
