Can you use camera lenses from other countries?

This may sound like a stupid question. For example you buy a Nikon 35mm 1.8g lens in Japan, and bring it over to Canada. Can you use the lens on your D7000 that you bought in Canada?

Well, Jack was lucky with his example because the Pentax K-mount was the commonest in the world at the time, but he has a point.

A Nikon-fit lens will fit your camera from ANYWHERE - remember, the Kiev arsenal brought out a series of 35mm SLRs that used the Nikon AI mount.

American Components, Russian Components… All MADE IN TAIWAN!

Sorry… The quote from Armageddon was fitting here.

As most things are manufactured abroad, there's more compatibility than people think. In this case it's less of a question of where was it made and more of the question of do the lenses have the correct mounting to fit on your camera.

If the lens says that it's designed to fit on your model (or at least all Nikons) then it doesn't matter where you got it.

This is dating me a bit but I had to replace an American purchased Pentax K-1000 lens when I was with my father in Okinawa. I went into the camera shop, showed them the camera and the broken lens and the shop keeper nodded and went behind the counter and showed me a slew of types that had the compatible mount to my camera.

Picked the one I needed and it worked like a charm.

@Andrew - LOL! I *said* I was dating myself. But that's the point we agree with. As long as you have a lens that is designed for your specific camera lens mount, it doesn't matter where it comes from. That's the joy of standardization. It doesn't even have to be a Nikon lens. There are a lot of third party lens manufacturers that make lenses for other companies and their mounts. As long as the lens was made for your Nikon mount, you'll be fine.

And my name is Alex not Jack FYI <grin>
