Can't upload pictures from a Nikon D90?
This weekend I took about 100 pictures with my Nikon D40x then had to switch over to the D90. (All using the same 16g memory card.)
I was able to load both sets of images (100 from the d40x and about 900 from the d90) onto my Mac. ***However, I'm unable to open the ones taken from the D90 in Photoshop.***
Someone told me to update my NEF reader. Is this correct? If so, how do I do that! Is there a link to do it on the Nikon website?
When trying to open a picture in PS it says, "Could not complete your request because PS does not recognize this type of file."
First very bad mistake using cards in different cameras - a very bad idea. That could be why you can't use them.
Can you view them? If so check the format - it may have been altered with your moving the card around - hey who knows what these things will do.
If the format has been altered convert them to.jpg and for your own sake, don't do that again. One card, one camera - that's how it's supposed to work.
There's no problem with the file transfers. The problem is software related. Your copy of Photoshop does not recognize the D90's version of RAW files. The D90's accompanying CD should contain an application that can solve that somehow.
Yes it sounds like the raw decoder needs updating. You can get an update of Adobe Camera Raw from Adobe's website.
Bad advice above about not using a SD card on multiple cameras. It is a myth. Those comments are laughable - the format on the camera can change the file format to jpg? This doesn't even make any sense.
I have been doing it for years with no problems. I have over a dozen SD cards and 5 digital cameras. I routinely swap cards from camera to camera. Have never had a card corruption issue.
Your problem is as mentioned above that photoshop is not recognizing the NEF raw file format. You need a new codec from Adobe (fancy name for a coder-decoder), which is a small software snippet that recognizes and can decode the file format.
If your version of photoshop is really old, you may need to upgrade it.
