Can I use a AFS-Nikkor 55-200mm lens on a Nikon F80?

I want to buy a film camera but I can't afford to buy the body AND a new lens. But I already have a Nikon D40, and I'm wondering if I can use the lenses I have for that with a film camera.

I have these lenses:
AF-S Nikkor 55-200mm zoom lens, and
AF-S Nikkor 18-55mm
and I want to use them with a Nikon F80.

They will mount, meter and autofocus just fine, but they're DX lenses. That means that they won't necessarily fill the whole frame of the image.

The 18-55mm one will not fill the whole frame at the wide end, the 55-200mm one won't fill the whole frame in the middle of its focal range. And even when it fills the frame, there will be quite some vignetting.

You still can print large and crop away an inch around the image, thus basically using your film camera as a "crop film one".

Or save some pennies and get the new 50mm/1.8G (not D!).It will work perfectly on a F80 and also work and autofocus on your D40.
