Can i trade in my camera at best buy?
Can i trade in my camera at best buy? I recently just broke my Nikon D5100 (beyond repair) and i have the 3 year geek squad protection plan. Do you think i can exchange the new one they are going to give me for another camera and i pay the difference? After all, the guy at geek squad i talked to said "you can pick a new one out".
Sure but you will not get nearly as much as you would if you sold it on Craigslist
Broken cameras can't be traded in unless you have an insurance policy that replaces the camera even if it is on fire. An extended warranty just covers camera faults, NOT damage
Read your agreement
Maybe. It would be up to the discretion of the store manager. Most likely they would say yes. I take it that you want to upgrade or change brands? BTW, it won't go the other way. The won't let you trade down and give you cash for the difference.
If your camera is under the 3yr protection plan, and they say it is covered, and they are going to give you a replacement, just ask if you can upgrade when they replace your camera.
Either they will or they won't.
On the other hand, they could perhaps give you are refurbished replacement and not a new one, so there may be a limitation there.
You'll have to check their policy. Usually it will state "of equal or greater value", and they will make the case that if your camera is a couple of years old, the normal wear and tear will have reduced the value of your camera, so a refurbished camera would be "of greater value".
