Can I find out how much space is on my SD Card through my Nikon?

I have a nikon d5000 and am wondering if there's a way to see space left on the SD card from one of the cameras menus

On the LCD display (Info), it should show you how many shots are remaining. This number is determined by the SD card capacity, as well as the photo size(small, medium, large), quality (basic, normal, fine), and format (JPG or RAW)

When you set the cameras quality from say L, Fine to RAW, you will see how many shots you can take at those settings, the information display (Page 62 of your user manual) will show you that number.

On page 215, there's a table that lists the number of shots per card at different quality settings just after you have formatted the card using the format feature on your camera, page 23 in your user guide.

Also on page 6 there's information that shows you where to see how many images are left on your card. Look on number 12 on that page.

Could it be that you have not sat down with your camera in one hand and your user guide in the other before now?
