Camera SD Card Memory

I'm kind of new to cameras and I just bought a Nikon D5100. How much SD memory would be sufficient enough for photos?

2, 4, 8Gig. What ever is on sale. You should unload to the computer
every day or so of shooting. They don't last forever, so don't get
a 16gig to learn on. Put each shooting event's pics in their own folder.
Make one PHOTO folder on the Desktop and the events will have
folders in there.
A dollar per Gig is a round number to pay these days.

Several cards is best, so a few 4G class 6 or class 10. Or 8G class 6 or 10. If you are planning on taking some videos with those pics then class 10 might be best.

Use smaller SDHC cards like some 4 gb cards.

The reason for this, is that if you have too large a card, you will get lazy and not copy all your images to your computer at the end of each days shooting.

It is important to format your memory card after each time you successfully copy the images to your computer.

Carry the second memory card as backup if you happen to fill the first 4 gb card.

Your camera has two memory card slots. This is really a cool feature. The maximum is 32GB with SDHC memory but if you use SDXC memory card the maximum is 64GB.

Here you can find the SDXC 64GB:

If you want the SDHC 32GB:
