Buying a used nikon dslr?
I was looking through craigslist for a dslr to buy.heres the basic information:
Nikon D3000 Digital SLR Camera, Nikkor AF-S DX 18-55mm VR Lens, Nikkor AF-S DX 55-200mm Lens.
includes camera bag
PERFECT CONDITION and RARELY USED.
I managed to bargain the price down to 475 from 550. He has no receipt and therefore no warranty and it could be stolen. Any idea on whether this is worth the price? Should I back out or buy it?
PASS! Way over priced! Buy from a dealer who will at least give you a 90 day warranty.
There's dealers out there who will give you a one year warranty on a refurbished camera / lens.
You're better off with the D3100.
While the camera is an excellent entry level camera for its time, it is worth closer to $300 with the two lenses.
That camera only came with a one year warranty and that expired about two years ago, so the warranty is not a problem
Just make sure that it comes with all the things that came with the original camera, in the box.
The d3000 is considered and old technology the 18-55 lens can be brought for about 50 to 75 dollars on e bay and the 55-200 for about $150.00
the 18 55 is a sharp lens, I have one,. The 55-200 I've never used, $300.00 is a good price for everything but it's still old technology as com paired to the newer ones
I like to use eBay completed auction listings for determining values. They have sold for as low as $300 and up to $500 for the two lens outfit.
http://www.ebay.com/...Complete=1
Realize also that there are two versions of the Nikon 55-200mm DX lens; the VR (vibration reduction) and non-VR version. The non-VR version is about $100 less expensive than the VR version. So make sure you know which 55-200mm lens you are getting.
Accessories such as a bag add little value to a used camera.
Don't buy things on craigslist unless you check it out personally, it should be local. Maybe you can "take it for a test drive" and go shoot some pictures and see if you like it
