Better Lens for Nikon D90?

I was looking at the 30mm 1.8, and the 50mm 1.8, and I was wondering any ones opinions on these two lenses. Right now i have the D90, with the kit lens (18-105) and the 70-300 VR. I'm kinda looking for a nice prime walk-around lens that would be good for portraits. Both of these lenses look really nice, just wondering which one would be a better choice.

I have both and prefer the 35/1.8 for walk around, the 50mm is a slight tele-effect on the d90, the 35mm is near the normal view of the human eye.

The 35mm f/1.8 is a great general purpose lens. This lens is the equivalent of a nifty-fifty on the D90 due to the 1.5x crop sensor. It's on the short end for portrait work, however, it will work fine for half or full body or small group shots. If your portrait photos are for personal enjoyment, this lens will do.

The 50mm f/1.8 is a good portrait lens, but a little long for a walk-around or party lens.

You'll see lots of stuff out there that says the 50mm is the lens to get, but they are talking about full frame sensors. The D90 has a 1.5x crop factor sensor, thus, the 35mm is the "lens to get".

You can try an experiment with your current kit lens. Set the lens to 35mm, and tape the zoom ring in place with blue masking tape. Shoot for a day and see how you like this. Set the lens to 50mm and tape the zoom ring in place and shoot for a day. See which focal length suits you.

Anything less than 50mm and you're looking at weird distortions in portraits, oversized noses, that kinda thing.
