Nikon SLR Cameras

Beginner in Photography?

I want to start photography. I'm 15 yrs old. I was considering getting the Nikon D3100 as a beginner camera to use. If i get the camera I would get the standard lens it comes with. It also has HD video which is a plus. Do you think this is a good camera for a beginner to start with who is serious about photography?

That camera is a great dslr, especially for beginners because its menu is so simple and organized. I know this because I have the NIkon D3000.It's known for that.

I shoot stills with a D200. I shoot video with a Panasonic HD camcorder.Ne'er the twain shall meet. OK… In a pinch I'll shoot stills with my camcorder while shooting video (it has that capability), but I don't like it. Can't get the quality I can get from my Nikon. I just can't see doing "movies" with a still camera.

Just get a affordable DSLR will do for beginner. After practising with this body, if you think you wanna go further then you upgrade. D3100 has enough features for a newbie to understand photography. Have fun, cheers~

Many Thanks.

Yes. It's a good camera. But so are the entry-level SLRs from other manufacturers. Your best bet would be to go into a store and see how they all fit. Ignore the sales clerk when he tells you that more megapixels is better. That was so a few years ago. Today it's the other way around. High megapixel cameras generally do worse in low light (except for professional grade cameras).

My question to you is do you know anything about photography? If not, are you planning on taking a course or teaching yourself? If you're teaching yourself, then expect a long learning curve with an SLR.
