Are all Nikon lenses okay for a Nikon D5100?

I'm buying the Nikon D5100 but are all the more simple lenses compatable with it?

All Nikon lenses that say "AF-S" in their description will work perfectly with it. E. G. This one:

Others that say only "AF" won't autofocus, e.g. This one:

It will work with any Nikon lens made since 1959 when the F Mount was introduced. Since the D5100 doesn't have a focusing motor, only AF-S lenses will autofocus on it.AF lenses won't and you will have to focus manually.

All AF-S lenses will work 100% with the D5100. For now, just get the 18-55 kit lens…

D5100 is a good camera. Any AF-s lens will be compatible with this camera.
If you are buying this camera with kit lens i.e. 18-55. You will need another lens i.e 55-200 for extra zoom in near future.
Or if you have money, buy a single lens i.e. 18-200 mm instead of 18-55 and 55-200mm.
Enjoy photography!
