50mm f1.8 AF lens compatible with autofocusing on Nikon 5100?

I was wondering if the Nikon 50mm f 1.8 AF lens will auto focus on the Nikon 5100. I saw on a review that you had to manually focus, but on a different one it said it would autofocus. Just wanted to clarify! Thanks!

Added (1). Would this autofocus?

There are several different versions of the Nikon 50mm f/1.8. The only one that would focus on your Nikon D5100 and other entry level Nikon DSLRs would be the Nikon f/1.8G AF-S.

For future reference, here's a complete list (updated regularly) of all lenses that will autofocus on your camera.

The d means digital. That lens is sweet, but it won't have auto-focus with a d5100.

Does the lens have a motor? If so, it will AF, if not, it won't.

Entry level Nikon dSLRs like the D3000, 3100, 3200, 5100 and D5200 have no AF motor.

the semi pro and pro bodies have a motor and won't have this issue. The lowest end current model Nikon that has the AF motor is the Nikon D7000.

Only Nikon AF-S lenses will auto focus on your D5100.To lower costs Nikon didn't put a focusing motor in the camera body. Of course the fact that their AF-S lenses are more expensive had nothing to do with that decision.
